Vast majority of Russians believe in God - survey

Nearly 70% of Russians consider themselves religious, Vedomosti newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing a poll based on in-person interviews with some 2,000 respondents across Russia.

Venus (values, relatedness) conjunct Jupiter (orthodox religious tendencies (orthodoxy had "deeply rooted itself in the consciousness of the Russian people") sextile Neptune (spirituality, inspiration). Vesta (cultural values, devotion) trine Saturn (faithfulness, reverence (people of different faiths "consider Russia their Motherland. We are together, this is one big family. And our traditional values are very similar")).

Most who said they had religious beliefs identified as Orthodox Christians, according to data collected by the Center for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector at the HSE University in Moscow during research in 2023.

At the same time, however, Russia has always respected those who follow Islam, Buddhism and Judaism, he said. "This is its strength. This is absolutely clear," the president said.

Because of this, people of different faiths "consider Russia their Motherland, they have no other Motherland. We are together, this is one big family. And our traditional values are very similar," he explained.

Let the evil spirits be gone! People hop over flames at Bonfires of Saint John festival in Spain.

Hundreds of people gathered in Alcobendas, north of Madrid, on Sunday to take part in The Bonfires of Saint John festival celebrated in Spain and around the world. The common feature of festivities is jumping over bonfires which came from pagan cultures where it was believed to ward off evil spirits.

Uranus (unorthodox) conjunct Vesta (associated with spiritual truth, cultural values, known as the "keeper of the flame" exuding warmth and good feeling). Venus (social activities) opposite Jupiter (ritual).

Participants often make a wish while jumping but sometimes they overestimate their skills and end up landing in bonfire and being helped by firefighters.

Discovery

4 Vesta is one of the largest objects in the asteroid belt. It was discovered by the German astronomer Heinrich Wilhelm Matthias Olbers on 29 March 1807 and is named after Vesta, the virgin goddess of home and hearth from Roman mythology.

Vesta is thought to be the second-largest asteroid, both by mass and by volume, after the dwarf planet Ceres. Vesta was the fourth asteroid to be discovered, hence the number 4 in its formal designation.

Upon its discovery, Vesta was, like Ceres, Pallas, and Juno before it, classified as a planet and given a planetary symbol. The symbol represented the altar of Vesta with its sacred fire and was designed by Gauss. The asteroid symbols were gradually retired from astronomical use after 1852, but the symbols for the first four asteroids were resurrected for astrology in the 1970s.

Vesta orbits the Sun between Mars and Jupiter, within the asteroid belt, with a period of 3.6 Earth years.
