472235 Zhulong is a transneptunian object classified as a scattered object. Zhulong is a creature from Chinese mythology with a human face and scarlet serpent body. It controlled the day and night of the world by opening and closing its eyes. It is described in classic Chinese literature as shining a torch over "the ninefold darkness."

Discovery

2014 GE45/472235 Zhulong is a transneptunian object classified as a scattered object with an absolute magnitude of 6.5; its diameter is estimated at 230 kilometers.

The object had been discovered in 2011 and designated 2011 GY 61, but the Minor Planet Center in charge of official numbering, considered this a pre-discovery.

Zhulong ("Torch Dragon") is a creature from Chinese mythology with a human face and scarlet serpent body. It controlled the day and night of the world by opening and closing its eyes. It is described in classic Chinese literature as shining a torch over "the ninefold darkness." Name suggested by students at the National Dali School.
