Orcus
90482 Orcus is a trans-Neptunian dwarf planet located in the Kuiper belt, with one large moon, Vanth. It was discovered on 17 February 2004 and named after one of the Roman gods of the underworld, Orcus.

Thousands gathered to watch demon-like figures of German folklore - the Perchte and the Krampus - parade for the annual 'Perchtenlauf' ('Run of the Perchten') at the Prater fun fair in Vienna on Sunday.

Footage shows the creatures, with their wooden masks and fur costumes, interacting with the crowds and scaring and amusing the children. There was also an appearance from St Nicholas himself, the forerunner of Santa Claus.
"For us it's purely a matter of making sure that we can drive out the winter well, and the evil spirits," explained Kai Ginterseder, playing one of the Perchten. "And that's exactly what we're here for, with our devil masks, to make sure that everything is happening the way it's supposed to be."

The coffin ceremony takes place at the temple every day, although interest grows prior to special occasions.
"You can sleep in a coffin and expel bad karma. It's like praying and wash the bad things out of the body. We do it once a year usually at the end of the year." explained a devotee, Prawo.

Discovery
2004 DW/90482 Orcus is a Kuiper belt object with a large moon, Vanth. It was discovered on February 17, 2004. images as early as November 8, 1951 were later identified. Orcus is a plutino, locked in a 2:3 resonance with Neptune, making two revolutions around the Sun to every three of Neptune's. This is much like Pluto, except that it is constrained to always be in the opposite phase of its orbit from Pluto: Orcus is at aphelion when Pluto is at perihelion and vice versa.
The minor planet Orcus was named after one of the Roman gods of the underworld, Orcus. While Pluto (of Greek origin) was the ruler of the underworld, Orcus (of Etruscan origin) was a punisher of the condemned.
